Terms of service
Last updated September 13, 2026
1. Agreement
These terms are a contract between you and Scribetide LLC ("we", "us") for Scribetide, the transcription service available at this website and its related applications (the "service"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you use the service on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to bind it, and "you" includes that organization.
2. Accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- Provide accurate information and keep your sign-in details confidential. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
- One account per person. Creating several accounts to get around plan limits is not allowed.
- We may require you to verify your email address before the service is available.
- Tell us at support@scribetide.com right away if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
3. The service
The service turns audio and video recordings into text using automatic speech recognition, identifies speakers, lets you edit the result, generates notes with large language models when you ask for them, and exports transcripts in several formats. We may add, change or remove features, and features marked as beta or preview may change or end without notice.
Transcripts and AI-generated notes are produced automatically and can contain errors, omissions and misattributed speakers. Review them before relying on them. The service is not a substitute for certified human transcription where the law or a court requires it, and it does not provide legal, medical, financial or other professional advice.
4. Acceptable use
You agree that you will:
- Only upload recordings you have the right to process. Recording and consent laws differ by place; obtaining any consent required from the people in a recording is your responsibility.
- Not upload content that is illegal, that infringes someone else's rights, or that contains malware.
- Not interfere with the service, probe or overload it, scrape it, or try to access accounts or data that are not yours.
- Not reverse engineer the service or use it to build a competing transcription product.
- Not share, sell or sublicense your account, and not resell the service.
- Use the service within the limits of your plan and the fair-use rules in section 6.
We may suspend or remove content or accounts that break these rules.
5. Your content
You own your recordings, transcripts, edits and notes. You give us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, transmit and display that content only as needed to provide the service to you, including sending it to the processors listed in section 7. The licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except for backup copies that are purged on their normal schedule.
We do not use your content to train machine-learning models, and we do not claim any rights in the output the service generates for you. You are responsible for the content you upload and for how you use the output.
6. Plans, payments and refunds
- Free plan. Up to 3 files a day, each up to 30 minutes and 500 MB, transcribed in the standard queue. We may change free-plan limits at any time.
- Unlimited plan. $12 per month or $96 per year, billed in advance through Stripe. Files up to 10 hours and 5 GB.
- Fair use. Unlimited includes 100 hours of transcription per calendar month. Above that, new files are processed at lower priority; above 200 hours uploads pause until the next month. Automated or shared use that is inconsistent with an individual subscription may be limited or ended.
- Renewal and cancellation. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from Settings; your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for, then moves to the free plan.
- Refunds. Payments are not refundable, and we do not give refunds or credits for partial months or years, unused time, or downgrades, except where the law requires it.
- Price changes. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before a price change applies to your subscription. Prices exclude taxes, which are added where required.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, we retry it; if it still fails, your account moves to the free plan. Your transcripts remain accessible.
7. Third-party services
We rely on the following providers to run the service. Each processes data only as needed for its role, under terms that do not allow it to train models on your content.
- Supabase (United States): database, authentication and private file storage.
- AssemblyAI: speech-to-text. Receives a temporary link to the audio and any key terms you enter.
- Anthropic or OpenAI: AI notes and title suggestions. Receives the transcript text and your instruction when you use those features.
- Stripe: payments. We never see or store card numbers.
- Resend: transactional email, such as verification and "transcript ready" messages.
- Heroku (United States): application hosting.
8. Data retention and deletion
- Original audio and video is deleted automatically according to the retention setting on your account (immediately after transcription, after 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or never). You can also delete the media of any recording at once.
- Transcripts, edits and notes are kept until you delete them. Deleting a recording removes its transcript, segments, notes and any remaining media.
- When you close your account, we delete your account data and content within 30 days; backups are purged within a further 30 days. Billing records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Details are in the privacy policy.
9. Availability and support
We work to keep the service available but do not promise uninterrupted operation; maintenance, provider outages and factors outside our control can cause downtime. Support is provided by email at support@scribetide.com. We do not offer a service-level agreement on any plan.
10. Termination
You can stop using the service at any time and close your account by emailing us. We may suspend or end your access if you materially break these terms, if a payment remains unpaid, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service, in which case we will give reasonable notice where we can. After termination we may delete your content as described in section 8. Sections 5, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 15 survive termination.
11. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including accuracy of transcripts and AI output, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. You use the output at your own risk.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Scribetide LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 50 US dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; in that case they apply to the extent permitted.
13. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Scribetide LLC against claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from the content you upload, your use of the output, or your breach of these terms, including any claim that a recording was made or processed without the consent the law required.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will notify you by email or in the app at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the new terms; if you do not, cancel and stop using the service before they apply.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Scribetide LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be brought in the courts located there, and both parties consent to their jurisdiction, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any competent court to protect its intellectual property or confidential information.
